The History of Bedford Bowls

Bedford Borough Bowling Club is a private members’ club, which has been an active part of Bedford’s sporting activity for one hundred years - 2011 was the Club’s Centenary Year for the Outdoor Facilities.

The Club provides for both indoor and outdoor bowling. The indoor green has six rinks, and the surface was boarded by Dales in April 2010, complete with new underlay and carpet.

We celebrated the 50th Anniversary of our indoor facility from November 2021.

About Us
About Us

We run our own indoor leagues and our members participate in Club, County and National competitions. We also participate in friendly competitions with other indoor bowls clubs in our area.

The main outdoor green is an all-weather surface of five rinks, but this can be made into seven as the need arises. This facility is usually open from April until September each year with members taking in part in Club, County and National Competitions. Recently, opening times have been extended to try to provide some bowling facilities for our members whilst our indoor facilities have had to be closed.

We run taster sessions and beginner bowler sessions as new members and bowlers of all abilities are always welcome.

Membership of the Club is open to the whole community. Those with a visual impairment or physical disability are welcome.  The Club has regular roll-up sessions for visually impaired bowlers and runs weekly sessions hosted by club coaches for a local Parkinsons group.

We have a good car park adjacent to the buildings, and there is a well-stocked bar.
